Welcome to my blog!

My name is Hannah S and I am a senior Theater major and a minor in education. My goal is to become a high school Theater teacher in the state of Florida. I have lived in the sunshine state my whole life and I grew up on the stage. I have a deep root in theater education because my mom was my theater teacher in high school and HER mother was her teacher at the same school. I fought it for a while, but in starting my minor, I can't think of anything else I would want to do for the rest of my life.

Technology and I have a love/hate relationship. I was originally on a Stage Manager track which meant making calendars, organizing information, and contacting mass groups of people. I have used Microsoft, apple, and google products as well copy machines and other office technology. While I am fluent in these platforms, I am still the person who attracts viruses or forgets how to find certain tools like a grandma. Because I grew up along side technology (not with it), I am still catching up on the tricks and easier ways of navigating software. I also never took a real typing class so I am completely self taught and still not the greatest typer.

In this class, I want to work on my technology skills in a professional setting. I have always been good with software as well as designing aspects, but I want to be taken seriously and be confident in my ability to use technology in the classroom. I also want to become more comfortable with Microsoft and google products because I am a primary apple user.

I can't wait to get this semester started!

    Welcome to EME2040! This is the third semester that I've had an aspiring high school theater teacher :) I think the arts are so important and I really admire that you've chosen this as a career path. This class will defintely enhance your current skills and build your tech confidence!

    Hannah, (you probably already know what I'm gonna comment on, but oh well!) I'm into theater too! It is so cool that you're doing the same thing that your mom and grandma did because I think it is so important and really cool to be teaching theater. My theater teacher in high school was one of the best ones I had, so I'm excited for you to be that for others!

    Hannah! I think it's so cool that one of your passions is theater. I can sense that much from your blog post alone! Now I want to go watch a musical or play and see what you can do. I know you'll go on to great things!

To be completely honest, I am not a fan of Diigo. I do not think it is aesthetically pleasing or easy to understand. Also, I am not a fan of how it dictates my googling 24/7. It is a good place to keep things, however, it does not cite the sources we find. If they had an MLA citation tool or something of that nature, I would use it religiously. I do a lot of research papers in my theater classes, and having to keep up with sources is extremely tedious. I do not want to have my sources in many different places (Diigo, RefWorks, etc). I wish there was one concise tool to use. With blogging, I have had to do it for a few classes, and I find it interesting for specific purposes. For my personal life, however, I do not like it because I would rather write it down in a journal and not put my thoughts or deep secrets onto the internet. In the School of Theater at FSU, I was originally on a Stage Management track. This meant I was in charge of the organization of paperwork, rehearsals, and the show. I have been using Microsoft Word, Google Doc, and Pages for many years because of this. I would have to send daily schedules, calendars, and reports. All of the SM students had relatively the same paperwork, however, we would change the design layout to make it our own. MS Word is actually my least favorite program because I tend to ask it to do things that it does not like and I end up having to re-do the entire paper. Pages is a lot easier for me to navigate and google docs is easier for group editing. A huge part of working in theater is getting the rights to plays or musicals. There are a few companies that handle the rights to all of the shows, and we have to pay them to access certain things for the show. There are scripts, music scores, logos.      While on the FSUS website, I noticed a stark difference between the elementary teachers' websites and the high school theaters' websites. For younger kids, there is a lot more color and child based images. On the upper level websites, there is either no information or just the syllabus and an email address for the teacher. This is because the parents are more likely to look at the elementary websites than the high school ones. As an arts teacher, I want to incorporate more color and excitement into my website while still providing all of the information relevant to my class.      I am actually very proud of my website I created for this class and another class last semester.
